You know that iTouch your son or daughter has? The one with all the cool games? It's a lot of fun, but did you know that device and many like it are capable of connecting unwary kids with child predators via email, Twitter, Facebook and other online sites and e-communications methods? It happens every day, often right under the noses of parents. Of course, computers in the home or at friends' houses also pose risks for kids who don't consider that much of what they do online can be viewed by literally millions of people, many of whom will take advantage of the situation.

With this in mind, the Valley View and Pleasant Hill Middle School PTSAs are sponsoring a presentation titled "Child Exploitation on the Internet" for parents next month. The presentation will be led by Officer Steve DeWarns, a local Bay Area police officer and nationally-recognized expert in how to prevent online child exploitation.

The presentation will also address cyber bullying and current social trends online. All attendees will receive a CD-ROM containing additional information. The presentation is direct and is for parents only. No children at the meeting, please.
