AT: What is Assistive Technology and how can it help my child?

Mt. Diablo Unified School District has an extensive website on Assistive Technology supports in MDUSD, click here.  Our very own AT Specialist Ann Tirrell provided a training for parents on Monday that shared all of this fabulous information and tools, for those of you that missed the training here is the information she provided.

According to the ATAAC Website:

ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY

Assistive Technology (AT) is anything that helps a student with a disability maintain or increase functional capability. The ATAAC team works on a consult basis, meaning that we are here to provide recommendations, training and trial equipment to assist IEP Teams in supporting student's AT needs.

MDUSD Sp Ed Case Managers can request assistive technology services through the Assistive Technology Services request form on the MDUSD Staff Portal.

There is an entire list of AT Digital Tools that my support your child's needs for access during distance learning and beyond, click here.  There are many Chrome Extensions that your child's case manager can add to your child's google account to access the digital tools.  Remember to work with your child's case manager to discuss what tools may support your child.  These tools help with reading and writing on google docs and pdfs.

One tool that is automatically available is Voice Typing on Google Docs, check out this video to learn how to use this tool.

For more information please check out the MDUSD AT (Assistive Technology) Website at https://mdusdataac.weebly.com/at.html or speak with your child's case manager, or you can reach out to the Parent Liaison at shenh@mdusd.org.
