Superintendent's Friday Letter Talks about how MDUSD supports the LGBTQ + community

We Take Pride in You! – Pride Flag Raising Ceremony

Small actions can mean big things. Ceremoniously and with heart, on the sunny morning of Thursday, June 4, 2020, Mount Diablo Unified School District raised the LGBTQ+ pride flag for the first time in district history, showing support for these social movements. In attendance were Board Members Linda Mayo, Joanne Durkee and Cherise Khaund, GSA President Bianca Solomon (Ygnacio Valley High), Kathleen Krentz of Claycord PFLAG, and a few of our MDUSD staff.

This act accompanied a formal Resolution passed on May 28th in which the Board of Education recognized June as Pride Month. We hope it is clear that we truly do take pride in our students, staff, and community, regardless of orientation or identity—and that means each and every one of you!

History proves the same—for example, did you know that in 2004 the Mount Diablo Unified School District took a controversial step in allowing employees to have/purchase medical benefits for same sex partners and families? This was long before any laws required such provisions.
