Remembering a Servant Heart

It is with great sadness that I share the words from her WorkAbility Sisters about the loss of Kathy Randall, a woman with a true servant heart.

WorkAbility is writing to share some unfortunate news. Kathy Randall passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2020. Her cancer metastasized and her kidneys failed her. This is a complete shock to all of us as she was healthy and vibrant a few weeks ago.

Kathy was a founding part of the WorkAbility program almost 20 years ago. She was passionate about it and promoted it every second of her life. She believed everyone should have a job. She had high standards and expected a lot from the students. We often joked that she even fired her son when she owned her business, but now he runs it! Countless students have come back through the years and said that she is the reason they are successful! She loved the students and her work sisters so much that even at 71 and surviving chemotherapy last year she didn't want to retire.

Miraculously, she was able to come home from the hospital on Friday evening and be with her husband, son, and daughter until she passed. We were all so grateful she didn't pass alone in the hospital.

Who is Kathy Randall...
She was hysterical, sarcastic, had THE kindest heart and was sooooooo compassionate. She LOVED people well; she encouraged them, blessed them, and served family, friends, and students with everything she had. She had more energy and spunk than all of us combined. She LOVED parties, swimming, kids, cooking, walking, CURVES, SAS shoes, WorkAbility, our students, and Jesus. She was passionate about everything she loved! She made a mean drink, pushed you to do your best because she believed in you, and loved to tease and joke with you when you were at your wits end. She was game for anything to put a smile on someone’s face. She was obsessed with Pioneer Woman and could eat her weight in liverwurst. She had a bright green thumb and everything flourished under her care- plants and people.

She was the hardest worker, and had strong convictions about what was right and good to do even when you didn’t want to do it. Every day with her was unpredictable and filled with lots of laughter. She was the complete package of strength, vulnerability, humbleness, and love. She was an open book even when (sometimes) you wanted to slam it shut. The WorkAbility sisters are honored to be her friend and to have been loved by her. Her WorkAbility sisters, family, friends, co-workers, and students will miss her wholeheartedly. She is definitely celebrating in heaven and we rejoice in that. She was a legend!

Her family will have a celebration of life when the community is allowed to resume large gatherings.

Warm Regards,
