Applications are now being accepted for State Board appointees to a number of California boards and commissions including the California Advisory Commission on Special Education (ACSE), which serves as California's state special education advisory panel under requirements of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). The Advisory Commission on Special Education advises the Governor, State Board of Education, Assembly and Senate on issues related to the education of students with disabilities in California schools. Commissioners serve up to two four year terms. Information on the appointment process for the other appointing bodies to this commission may also be found on the ACSE web page referenced in the link below.
Parents of children with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) are encouraged to apply in order to ensure a representation of more than 50% on the ACSE, as required in federal statute for state advisory panels for IDEA.
