FREE Fishing for Children!
The Contra Costa Water District (CCWD) has partnered with the
C.A.S.T. For Kids organization to host a fun and free morning of
fishing for children with special needs. The event will be held
on Saturday, October 26, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Los Vaqueros
Reservoir Marina, 9990 Los Vaqueros Road, Byron, CA. Children
with special needs (ages 7-18) are invited to participate in this
event.
Each student who participates in the event must be accompanied by
a parent or guardian. Students can also bring one sibling or
another parent if they wish, however it is not required. Due to
the size of the boats, each party cannot exceed 3 people.
At the event, each party will be paired with an experienced
angler to ride in a boat and spend the morning fishing. For
students who rely on wheelchairs, there are a few spaces on a
pontoon boat that can accommodate wheelchairs. These spaces are
available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Each student will be supplied with a fishing pole, tackle and
t-shirt free of charge. At noon, a barbecue lunch for all
participants and a recognition ceremony will complete the event.
The parents or guardians of students who would like to
participate can get more information and registration materials
by contacting Gina Oltman at goltman@ccwater.com
or calling 925-688-8307. Enrollment
in this program is on a first-come, first-served basis.
