Meet Director of Student Services Felicia Stuckey-Smith

Meet Director of Student Services Felicia Stuckey-Smith. Felicia Stuckey-Smith, former Principal of Sun Terrace Elementary stepped into the position as Director, Student Services this fall. As Principal of Sun Terrace Elementary Felicia worked with the Counseling Enriched Program at her site and prior to being a Principal Felicia was a dedicated teacher.

1. Describe your job and responsibilities:
As the Director of Student Services her responsibility is to oversee all areas of Student Services including but not limited to areas of discipline, academics, Section 504, attendance, placements/transfers, school climate, community, records, support for students, etc. In addition to Student Services she also works with Special Education and is currently assisting with the CDE Verification Review. Part of her role in the Verification Review is to work with SASS to coordinate communication out to the site principals about the CDE Verification Review.

2. What inspired you to work in this profession?
Felicia Stuckey-Smith stated her mother inspired her to work in this profession; she was a former teacher, principal and district office administrator as well. Her other inspiration is her love for children and loves working with children, that is her true passion. She also mentions that she enjoys working with ALL CHILDREN.

3. What is your professional goal?
Felicia Stuckey-Smith says her passion is to be in a position where she can make a difference in the lives of children and work with children and families and to have the ability in that position to make decisions that affects ALL CHILDREN in their lives as it relates to curriculum, discipline, attendance, academics, etc. When Felicia says ALL CHILDREN she wants to help all children including children with special needs, all different backgrounds, different levels of abilities and disabilities, students who are excelling and students who are struggling; she truly cares about ALL CHILDREN!

4. What do you like best about your job?
In her job she gets to work with people that are dedicated and committed to children. She gets to enjoy contact with parents and interact more with adults that are making decisions. As the Director of Student Services she works with the entire Mt. Diablo community including agencies, parents, teachers, students, staff, and District level committees, so she gets to make an impact on all students within the Mt. Diablo Unified School District.

5. If you could change anything about your job/services you provide, what would it be?
If she could change anything Felicia would change the funding sources to provide more funding so students with the greatest needs could be met with services and academics. She would also change the negative perception of children with special needs and have people embrace and want to support ALL CHILDREN.
