Matthew was about 8 years old, and playing quietly in his room (or so I thought) when the phone rang.
"Hi Laura, this is Mary. Our kids go to school together. I have Matthew in my car. I saw him standing near the freeway entrance and thought you must have lost track of him. May I bring him home?"
When Mary arrived at my door with Matthew I hugged him a cried with relief. He seemed surprised. He had no idea that he had been in danger.
