WorkAbility Parent Workshops in Pleasanton

Here are the 2010-11 school year parent workshops that will be offered in Pleasanton. These workshops are open to anyone who wishes to attend.

These workshops provide an invaluable opportunity to gather critical information to assist you in planning for your child’s life after high school. Mark your calendars now and plan to join us for these FREE educational workshops.

Fall 2010

October 20, 6:30 – 8:30 PM – “Opening the Doors to the Future – Transition Information Night”

Pleasanton Senior Center, 5353 Sunol Boulevard. This evening will offer a showcase of agencies that provide services to Tri-Valley adults with developmental disabilities. An optional workshop “Ready, Set …Transition!” will be offered at 7:00 PM; recreational child care activities will be available during this workshop. Pre-registration is required for childcare; workshop is free. Call Gina Gourley (925-426-4293) to pre-register for the recreational child care activities.

November 17, 6:30 – 8:00 PM – “Project Search”

Pleasanton USD District Office Campus, 4665 Bernal Avenue, Bernal Room, Building 400. This informational workshop provides an opportunity to learn about Project Search, an innovative approach to employment taking place at Children’s Hospital, Oakland and the County of Alameda offices, Oakland. No pre-registration required. Free!

Winter 2011

January 26, 6:30 – 8:00 PM – “Working and the Impact on Benefits”

Pleasanton USD District Office Campus, Bernal Room, Building 400. This workshop will include an overview of SSI benefits (PASS program, student income exclusion, staying organized, avoiding overpayments, etc.) as well as provide a chance to explore a website to aid in managing SSI benefits. No pre-registration required. Free!

February 24, 6:30 – 8:00 PM - “Supported Employment – An Overview”

Pleasanton USD District Office Campus, 4665 Bernal Avenue, Bernal Room, Building 400. This workshop will provide an overview of supported employment and the intake process as well as the support provided during employment. This presentation may also include a job developer/ job coach and persons with disabilities receiving supported employment services. No pre-registration required. Free!

March Saturday, Date TBD, 9:30 AM – 3:00 PM– Alameda County Transition Fair, College of Alameda

Plan to attend this informational/educational showcase to learn more about the transition process and adult services in Alameda County. Information and registration forms will follow in the future. Registration fee amount to be determined to cover expense of lunch.
