Name, title as CAC Board, number of children in the District.
Lorrie Davis, CAC Chairperson. I have two children attending school in the Mt. Diablo School District – a son who is entering Clayton Valley High School as a freshman and a ten year old daughter who is in a SDC class at Woodside Elementary School.
What do you feel you can bring to the CAC as a board member?
This is my fifth year serving on the CAC. I was a Member for one year, Secretary for two years, Vice Chairperson for one year and this year is my first year as the Chairperson. I am also a Resource Parent supporting other parents in the District. Parent involvement is crucial and I have learned a lot from other parents. I believe in working collaboratively, as a team, with District staff and the Board Members to ensure every student receiving special education services will succeed in maximizing their potential and receive the highest quality education.
Why did you choose to be a CAC Board Member?
When my daughter started attending the preschool program at Gregory Gardens, I wanted to learn as much as possible about special education. I decided to take the Resource Parent training where I learned about Special Education law, the district’s responsibility to provide services to students with special needs and the process to follow to access services. Through the CAC, parents are informed about changes in special ed. law and how these changes will affect services in our district. In addition, they discuss issues/concerns specific to our district and advise the Board of Education.
What do you do for fun?
I enjoy spending time with my family and we all enjoy outside activities, especially camping. However, most of all, we love to ride bikes and hike.
