Information Sharing from the State Director of the Special Education
Division
Applications are now being accepted for
State Board appointees to a number of California boards and commissions
including the California Advisory Commission on Special Education (ACSE), which
serves as California's state special education advisory panel under
requirements of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). The
Advisory Commission on Special Education advises the Governor, State Board of
Education, Assembly and Senate on issues related to the education of students
with disabilities in California schools. Commissioners serve up to two four
year terms. Information on the appointment process for the other appointing
bodies to this commission may also be found on the ACSE web page referenced in
the link below.
Parents of children with
Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) are encouraged to apply in order to
ensure a representation of more than 50% on the ACSE, as required in federal
statute for state advisory panels for IDEA.
